Release Forecasting Tool
As Release Manager, I built an Excel-based release forecasting tool that turns a single input, the development start date, into a complete release calendar. The tool automatically sets QA and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) durations from each release’s pattern, sizes the deployment window by device volume, and redraws the timeline whenever a date moves. Each release bar expands and contracts as development, QA, UAT or deployment time changes, so stakeholders can see the downstream effect of a schedule change immediately. The tool gave QA, device certification, UAT and operations teams one shared cadence and improved planning accuracy, speed and efficiency across firmware release cycles.
See it recalculate
Each row is a release. Watch the bars stretch and shrink as the inputs change.
On a phone, swipe the chart sideways to see the full calendar.
How it works
One date in, a full forecast out.
Enter one date
Set the development start date for a release.
Durations fill in
QA and UAT lengths are looked up from the release pattern.
Deployment is sized
The deployment window is set by the number of devices.
Calendar redraws
When a date moves, every downstream phase and the live date move with it.
Where it fit
- Supported a standardized release process across QA testing, firmware certification, UAT and deployment.
- Gave QA and operations teams a consistent cadence to plan against.
- Fed daily release reporting and weekly readouts that kept stakeholders informed through formal release acceptance.
